Activity Overview

An Expert Discourse on Managing PCOD Naturally: An Ayurvedic Perspective was organised by the Women’s Cell on Thursday, 18th September 2025. The discourse was delivered by Dr. Vaishali Divakar Mesta. Dr. Mesta has more than 10 years of private clinical practice as an Ayurvedic doctor.

A total of 54 students participated in the session. The objective of the session was to create awareness about managing women’s reproductive health issues using the alternative holistic system of Indian traditional medicine, Ayurveda.

Dr Mesta first began explaining about PCOD and PCOS and their impact on women everywhere. She then went on to explain the basic principles of Ayurveda. i.e. the idea that each person has unique life forces, known as doshas, which influence their health. Good health is seen as a state of balance among all three doshas.

Dr Mesta quoted that Ayurvedic texts offer a comprehensive solution to PCOD and PCOS. Every woman’s treatment is designed according to her unique constitution.  The treatment of the disease usually begins through detoxification or panchakarma therapies, followed by herbs for hormonal regulation and rejuvenation. Patients need to consume seasonal fruits and vegetables, millets, and cumin-fennel-coriander tea as part of their diet.  Dairy and high-fat products, refined sugar and sweets, processed and junk foods, refined flour, white bread, bakery items, and cold beverages and ice cream should be avoided. Daily exercise routine, standing in the early morning/late evening sun, and having a restful sleep were also encouraged.

The talk ended with a Question-and-Answer session followed by the vote of thanks.
