The Equal Opportunity Cell, in collaboration with Rotary Club Margao, Midtown and G.R. Kare College of Law, organized a session titled “Creating Safe Spaces: Breaking the Silence on Sexual Harassment” on 22nd September 2025 at 10:15 a.m.
The resource person for the session was Ms. Ruby Zenilda D’Souza e Luis, who delivered an insightful talk on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act. She explained in detail the concept of sexual harassment, ways of identifying acts that constitute harassment, and shared real-life examples to provide clarity.
Ms. D’Souza e Luis further elaborated on the duties of employers and institutions, the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in ensuring confidentiality in handling complaints, besides also creating awareness and sensitizing programmes. She also detailed the procedures for grievance redressal, the timelines within which complaints must be filed and resolved. Through real-life examples and case references, she emphasized the importance of awareness and sensitivity in ensuring the effectiveness of the law.
The session was attended by 190 students along with faculty members. It was well-received and appreciated by both staff and students, as it effectively sensitized the participants on the importance of creating safe and respectful spaces.
