The Department of Library, Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem celebrated National Librarian’s Day on 12th August.
The celebration was hosted by Ms. Yuga Adarkar, College Librarian. The programme began with a prayer recited by Ms. Andrea D’Souza, followed by the Principal, Dr. Aldina Branganza e Gomes, members of the Library Service Committee, faculty, and library staff paying homage to Dr. S.R. Ranganathan.

Mr. Presley Pereira, Librarian Grade-I, delivered a brief address on the life and contributions of the Father of Library Science, Dr. S.R. Ranganathan. Ms. Yuga Adarkar then introduced the newly formed Reader’s Mind Club and demonstrated the practical usage of the E-Catalogue of Subscribed Journals available on the college website. This e-catalogue contains the title pages of all 32 journals subscribed by the college.

The Reader’s Mind Club will function through three types of activities:

  1. Lecture/Author Meet Series
  2. Student Activities
  3. Book Club – open to students, faculty, and staff

In her address, Dr. Aldina Branganza e Gomes stated, “The Reader’s Mind Club will encourage students and teachers to read more books, thereby fostering a reading culture in our institution, because books keep readers grounded to original ideas.”

The inauguration of the Reader’s Mind Club followed, with 22 students enrolling as members. The elected office bearers were:

  • President – Ms. Anisha Sharma
  • Vice President – Ms. Apurva Patil
  • Secretary – Ms. Yutika

Members then participated in the activity “One Quote, Endless Inspirations”, introducing an author, the title of a book, and sharing their favourite inspiring quote. Ms. Deepali Sutar, faculty in Hindi, also presented a beautiful quote.Ms. Brian Mendoca , English faculty was present.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Yuga Adarkar.
