The Department of Psychology organized a movie outing for the Third Year B.A. Psychology students on Tuesday, 8th July 2025, to watch the recently released film Sitaare Zameen Par, starring Aamir Khan. A total of 26 students participated in this educational excursion aimed at deepening their understanding of key psychological themes through the medium of cinema.
Sitaare Zameen Par is a spiritual successor to the 2007 film Taare Zameen Par and focuses on the lives of children with Down syndrome and autism. Aamir Khan plays the role of a basketball coach who is assigned to train a team made up of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The remarkable aspect of this film is that many of the roles are played by actors with actual disabilities, making the portrayal both authentic and impactful.
The movie beautifully explores significant psychological themes such as neurodiversity, social inclusion, self-esteem, empathy, resilience, and motivation. It provides insight into the lived experiences of individuals with special needs, the challenges they face in a society that often misunderstands them, and the strength they draw from supportive environments. Through the journey of the coach and the team, the film underscores the importance of positive reinforcement, emotional support, and inclusive education—core concepts that psychology students’ study in depth.
Overall, the outing was both enjoyable and educational. It reinforced classroom learning by offering a real-world portrayal of psychological principles and deepened students’ understanding of how cinema can be a meaningful tool for social awareness and psychological insight.
