The Department of Physics, celebrated International Moon Day on Saturday, 19th July 2025, as 20th July coincided with a Sunday. The celebration, which has been an annual tradition at our college since 2023, aims to promote awareness and appreciation of lunar science, exploration, and its cultural significance.

This year’s event was meticulously planned and executed by the Third Year B.Sc. Physics Major students under the coordination and guidance of Dr. Manjunath Nayak, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics. The celebration included a range of engaging and interdisciplinary activities designed to ignite curiosity and foster teamwork among students across various streams.

Events Conducted:

1. Quiz Competition – “Moon Mania”
Coordinators: Ms. Joshia Fernandes, Ms. Jenelie Pereira, and Ms. Shruti Pawar (T.Y.B.Sc Physics Major)

  • First Place: Ms. Leah Fernandes and Ms. Clancy Dias (S.Y.B.Sc Physics Major)
  • Second Place: Ms. Ansica Fernandes and Ms. Abigail Afonso (T.Y.B.Sc Zoology Major)
  • Third Place:Ms. Shreya Naik and Ms. Smitha Bhosle (T.YB.Sc Mathematics Major)

2. Treasure Hunt – “Lunar Quest”
Coordinators: Ms. Larissa Fernandes, Ms. Pratiksha Gauns, and Ms. Kanishka Volvoikar (T.Y.B.Sc Physics Major)

  • Winner: Ms. Leah Fernandes and Ms. Clancy Dias (S.Y.B.Sc Physics Major)

3. Lunar Lens – Reel Making Competition
Organised and executed by: Ms. Daneca Da Cruz, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics

  • First Place: Mr. Dior Sky Silva (T.Y.B.Sc Mathematics Major)
  • Second Place: Ms. Pratiksha Gauns (T.Y.B.Sc Physics Major)
  • Third Place: Ms. Muskan Sarafaraz Shaik (T.Y.B.Sc Physics Major)

4. Games and Spot Prizes
Coordinators: Ms. Rashmi Kelaginamani, Ms. Stephy Fernandes, and Ms. Najiya Ansari (T.Y.B.Sc Physics Major)

5. Space-Themed Movie Screening
As part of the celebration, a science fiction movie based on space exploration was screened, adding an engaging and relaxing end to the eventful day.

A total of 66 students from various disciplines enthusiastically participated in the International Moon Day celebration. All faculty members from the Department of Physics were present and contributed to the smooth conduct of the events. Sr. Ishapriya A.C., Manager of the Institution, graciously presented the prizes to the winners and encouraged the students with her presence and kind words.
