The Department of Economics at Carmel College, Nuvem, celebrated World Population Day on 11th July 2025 by organizing an event titled “Population Pulse: Art and Quiz for a Sustainable Future.” The aim of the event was to create awareness among students about population issues and the importance of sustainable development.
The event included two activities: a quiz competition and a placard designing contest. A total of 63 students participated in both events. The quiz competition, “Demography Decoded,” was conducted online through Google Forms and had 54 participants. It focused on topics related to population trends and demographic facts. Ms. Valicha Dias and Hurit Barreto from T.Y.B.A. secured the first place, while Ms. Valanka Pereira, also from T.Y.B.A, received the second place.
The placard designing competition, titled “Voices on Canvas,” focused on India’s demographic dividend and had 9 participants. This activity gave students an opportunity to express demographic ideas through artwork. Ms. Sachi Naik from S.Y.B.Com. won the first place, and the second place was awarded jointly to Ms. Hazel Fernandes and Ms. Danica Almeida from S.Y.B.A.
The event helped in spreading awareness about World Population Day and allowed students to engage with the topic through both academic and creative means
