The Department of Botany, Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem, Goa organized a career orientation on the topic ‘Planting Seeds of the Future: Career Paths in Plant Sciences’ for undergraduate students of F.Y.B.Sc., S.Y.B.Sc. Botany Major and T.Y.B.Sc. Botany classes on 26th March 2025.
The speaker for the session was Dr. Ranjita Sawaiker, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Botany, P.E.S’s R.S.N. College of Arts and Science, Farmagudi, Ponda, Goa. She is a passionate teacher with research expertise in limnology, ecology and environmental science and actively involved in organizing career related sessions in her college.
The aim of the lecture was to equip students with the inspiration and information to make better-informed decisions about their future career options in general and in the field of Plant Sciences in particular. Dr. Sawaiker spoke about the various opportunities made available to students in college through activities organized under the banner of innovation and incubation, startups, etc. and encouraged them to actively participate in events and more so those related to career advancement. She emphasized on the importance of perseverance, embracing challenges and setting ambitious goals to strive towards excellence. She also emphasized on thinking out of the box to generate new and creative ideas, venturing into entrepreneurship and creating employment opportunities for others. It was a very informative and interactive session attended by 36 students and faculty.
