World Wetlands Day is an environmentally related celebration which dates back to the year 1971 when several environmentalists gathered to reaffirm protection and love for wetlands which are water ecosystems containing plant life and other organisms that bring ecological health in abundance to not only water bodies but to environments as a whole. The Department of Botany of Carmel College of Arts, Science & Commerce for Women, Nuvem, Goa organized a digital Poster Competition for students to commemorate World Wetlands Day on 1st February 2025 coordinated by Ms. Pratiksha Dabolkar, Assistant Professor of the Botany Department.
A total of 18 entries were received via online platform for the competition on the theme ‘Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future’. Prizes for the competition were awarded during the National Science Day 2025 celebrations with Ms. Sheryl Quadros of T.Y.B.Sc. Botany bagging the first place and Ms. Saniya Naik of S.Y.B.Sc. Botany bagging the second place. The competition provided a platform for students to creatively express awareness and commitment to wetland conservation.
