A field study trip was organised for the S.Y. Botany (MC) students on 16th October 2024, to RasRaj Goa Farms, Mollem. A total of 37 students were accompanied by Botany Faculty Dr. Janet Mascarenhas and Ms. Pratiksha Dabolkar.

The objective of the visit was to gain practical knowledge of plant propagation methods studied in the syllabus. Ms. Priyanka Naik, owner of RasRaj Goa Farms and a knowledgeable expert in plant propagation and farming techniques demonstrated several methods of plant propagation to the students, such as wedge grafting on mango plants, budding on Hibiscus plants and air layering on a pomelo plant. The working of a Khamba composter, an innovative approach to sustainable waste management was also demonstrated. This was complemented by a briefing on the process of vermicomposting, where earthworms are used to convert organic waste into nutrient-rich compost, an important practice in organic farming.

Overall, the visit to RasRaj Goa Farms was an enriching experience as it allowed the students to witness the practical applications of plant propagation methods studied in theory. This visit was not only educational but also gave the students a serene experience, amidst the beauty of the farm and its sustainable agricultural practices.
