The Department of Botany celebrated National Science Day 2025 by organizing various competitions and an exhibition for students. The objective of the event was to promote scientific awareness and highlight the importance of science, especially in the field of Botany.
As part of the celebration, the following competitions were held:
- A Treasure Hunt Competition was organized to provide an interactive platform for students to apply their botanical knowledge in an exciting and competitive setting to reach the hidden treasure.
- Cartoon Strip Drawing Competition titled ‘Cartooning for a change: Addressing Environmental Issues through Art’. Students used their creativity to draw cartoon strips that conveyed important environmental messages.
- Poster Competition on ‘Pulses in Everyday Life’, where students designed posters to show the identification characteristics and dietary value of pulses.
- Creative Planter Making Competition, where students made unique and attractive planters using recycled and eco-friendly materials.
In addition to the competitions, an exhibition was organized wherein students showcased various exhibits related to Botany and environmental awareness. The exhibits included demonstration of Hydroponics (growing plants without soil); demonstration of the process of Composting, preparation of Organic Liquid Fertilizer and Citrus Cleanser (a natural cleaner); dry flower arrangements and dry flower cards; display of herbal soaps; kitchen garden layout; specimens and slides focussed under the stereozoom and compound microscopes; and Kokedama (the Japanese art of moss ball planting). Student volunteers explained each exhibit to the visitors, helping them understand the concepts and processes involved.
A sale of herbal soaps and Kokedama was also organized during the exhibition. This provided students a platform to showcase their skills and encouraged entrepreneurial thinking among them. The exhibition was visited by a total of 189 visitors, including students, faculty members, and other college staff.
Overall, the National Science Day celebration was a great success in promoting scientific temper and increase awareness about the role of science in everyday life, especially in the field of Botany.
