On 25th January, the Department of Chemistry organized a field trip to Mulgao Verde for the TY and SY Chemistry students. We arrived at the location in Mulgao at 12:30 p.m. and were warmly welcomed by Mr. Rohan Nazareth, the founder of Mulgão Verde. He began with a brief introduction about his project and its goals.

Mr. Rohan Nazareth then led us to a small room which contained the machinery used for the production of virgin coconut oil.  He provided a detailed explanation of the production process of virgin coconut oil. He demonstrated the process from dehusking of the coconuts to oil extraction, explaining each step thoroughly. Additionally, he highlighted the innovative ways they repurpose waste products generated during the process.

The next session was conducted by Mrs. Viola Nazareth, who guided us through the garden, showcasing various plants and explaining their medicinal uses. As we proceeded to the vermicomposting area, we observed a black pepper creeper, and she elaborated on the conditions essential for its growth. The sustainable approach of converting waste products like testa and coir into manure was truly inspiring.

The final session included an insightful talk on mental health, emphasizing its importance in our lives. The day concluded with a wholesome Goan meal that everyone enjoyed.

The trip to Mulgao Verde was an enriching experience, offering valuable lessons on innovation and sustainability.
