Carmel leads the way for service to society

A blood donation drive was organized on the 14th of December 2021  in Carmel College of Art’s, Science and Commerce, Nuvem  Goa. A team of doctors and nurses ,led by Dr. Ravi Rego carried out the blood donation program. 90  students and staff registered for donating blood,from which 39 qualified for  and donated blood  after undergoing the mandatory process of counseling and testing. Dr. Ravi Rego  stated that Carmel College was the first college to organize a blood donation drive amid the covid situation and was appreciating the efforts of the organizers for taking the initiative.Dr. Rego ,responsible for blood collection in South Goa, reported that  there was a need for blood  due to the rising cases of accidents,cancer and so on. This  program was organized  by the NSS unit  and the Women’s cell of Carmel College in association with the lions club Nuvem- Verna  and the Hospicio Hospital, Margao.

The program began with a prayer for invoking the blessings of the divine, followed by the lighting of the lamp. The lamp was lit by the  Lion’s President Mr. Suresh Pai, Zone Chairman of Lion’s Club; Dr.Dilip Vernekar, Coordinator for Lion’s Club  Mr. Francisco Da Costa, the NSS Coordinator, and the Women’s Cell Coordinator. Activities to create awareness and step up the tempo  were conducted during the week. These included a digital poster-making contest, slogan writing and sloganeering competition on blood donation. Digital display of the same was made at the venue on the day of blood donation. A certificate of appreciation was given by the Hospicio Hospital Blood Bank (Directorate of Health Services, Government of Goa) to the NSS unit of Carmel College.
