On 24th October 2021, the NSS unit of Carmel College, Nuvem, in association with the Lions Club of Nuvem -Verna and Nave Marg Foundation, held a diabetes detection camp for the people of Nuvem. The camp was held at the village Panchayat Hall. This was a part of the community service activities for the village chosen by the NSS unit as a part of extension activities for the benefit of the nearby villagers. It was also linked to the Fit India and the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav initiatives.

The programme began with the lighting of the lamp by the President of Lions Club Mr. Suresh Pai, Founder of Nave Marg Foundation Mr.Celso Fernandes, and the Officiating Principal Dr. Sr. Maria Lizanne A.C. Thereafter there was a talk on diabetes by Dr. Celso Fernandes. During this camp, a club called ‘Living Happily with Diabetes Club of Nuvem’ was also inaugurated to help people cope with biabetes. There was also the unveiling of physiotherapy and yoga by Dr. Mackenzie Costa. 

15 NSS volunteers participated in the camp by cleaning and doing the paper work and in checking peoples’ weight and blood pressure. 173 villagers attended the camp.

The President of Lions Club, Mr.Suresh Pai and the founder of Nave Marg Dr. Celso Fernandes appreciated the efforts of the NSS volunteers.
