On Saturday,22nd Sept. 2018, Dr. Asif Qureshi, Associate Professor from the Dept. of Civil Engineering at IIT Hyderabad visited the Dept. of Zoology on invitation from his research collaborator Dr. Manoj Borkar.  Dr. Qureshi has a B.Tech from IIT Kanpur, DSc from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich and a Post Doctoral Fellowship from Harvard University School of Public Health. Dr. Qureshi spoke on ‘Bioaccumulation of trace mercury in marine food webs and Impacts of ecosystem shifts’. The Invited lecture was attended by faculty and students of the college and was followed by an interactive session.

Drs. Qureshi and Borkar are currently co-investigators, along with Dr. Anup Tiwari of National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research, Goa; in a major research project supported by Ministry of Earth Sciences of Govt. of India pertaining to mercury contamination in food-chains of Southern Ocean and have collected samples during the Southern Ocean Expedition last year.
