Carmel College campus was a hub of multidisciplinary academic deliberations and academia networking on common research interests as it hosted at its campus an International Multidisciplinary Research Conference on Women Studies and Social Sciences along with a Conference on Mathematics and Physics from 3rd-4th March, 2016. The Conferences were organized by the College in association with the International Multidisciplinary Research Foundation. (IMRF)
The inaugural ceremony was held in the presence of Sr. Maria Christi AC, Manager of Carmel Society, Dr. Sr. Aradhana AC, Principal, Carmel College, Dr. B. Ratnakar, Director, IMRF, Dr. Lellis Thivagar, Professor at Madhurai Kamaraj University, Dr. Pankaj Srivastava, Professor, National Institute of Technology, Allahabad and Mr. David Sweeny, Chartered Accountant, UK and Coordinator of ‘Abused Angels of India’. The dignitaries lighted the ceremonial lamp as Ms. Prajna Udupi, Assistant Professor in Psychology, Carmel College, rendered a solemn invocation song seeking the blessings of the Divine. Dr. Sr. Aradhana extended a warm welcome to the over 450 delegates including foreign delegates and guest speakers from Jordan, Turkey, Brazil, Uk, Iraq, Iran, Hungary and UAE and wished them a fruitful experience. Ms. Roxanne Singh, Associate Professor in English compered the inaugural programme and introduced the eminent speakers. The concept note was delivered by Dr. Ratnakar while the plenary talks on the two days were delivered by eminent experts including Dr. Agnes Havril, Faculty of Social Sciences, Corvinus University of Budapest, Hungary, Dr. Mohammad Abdulla, Professor of English Literature, Tafila University, Jordan, Mr. David Sweeny, Chartered Accountant, UK, Ms. Oya Orak, Faculty, Ordu University Turkey and Dr. Satya Saminadhan, Professor, ITM Business School, Chennai, among others. The technical sessions on Women studies and Social Sciences were held in 6 parallel sessions while there were 3 parallel sessions for the Mathematics and Physics sessions which facilitated intense discussions and sharing of research inputs.
The Conference Proceedings and Conference Journals with ISSN numbers were released on the occasion. The special invitees for the Conference were Adv. Francis D’Costa, Dr. Shrinivas Godugu, Asst. Regional Director, IGNOU, and Mr. Pradip A. P. DaCosta, – IQAC members of Carmel College. Students of Carmel College put up an impressive cultural programme showcasing Goan culture. At the Valedictory function, the best paper presentation awards were conferred and certificates and mementos were distributed. Dr. Sarath Chandran, Faculty at Damodar and Carmel College and local Conference Coordinator proposed the vote of thanks at the end of the Valedictory programme which saw the curtain come down on the academically stimulating and enriching activities at the two day multidisciplinary conferences.
