REPORT ON EXHIBITION HELD IN CARMEL COLLEGE FOR WOMEN, NUVEM

ENTITLED: ‘PREVENTION OF CANCER IN WOMEN’

As part of the MSc Nursing programme, 3 First year MSc students of the Institute of Nursing Education, Bambolim conducted an exhibition titled ‘Prevention of Cancer In Women’ in Carmel College, Nuvem, to make students and the community around aware of Cancer being one of the highest silent killer diseases in India. The administrative block of the college was utilized to conduct the exhibition.

Aspects related to statistics, meaning of cancer, sites, common signs and symptoms, risk factors and prevention of cancer were explained using posters and models. The talk included a mock demonstration of breast self-examination on a model. The guidelines for early detection and screening for cancer of reproductive organs were also explained to the audience. The audience numbering around 100, included mainly students, a few parents and staff of Carmel College.

The crowd was very receptive to the talk. They asked questions and cleared their doubt regarding the topic. Feedback forms were distributed among the audience which were returned with many positive comments and suggestions. As requested by the teachers of the College, the displays were left overnight for community viewing.

The organizers and audience found this an enriching and fulfilling experience and thanked the College management profusely for giving this opportunity to share their expertise.
