The department of Zoology organized lecture series on Ornamental fishes and Aquarium Fabrication for the students of Zoology, Semester IV, Semester VI and Semester II on 17th, 20th and 21st December 2016 respectively. The resource person was Dr. Hrishikesh Pawar, Subject Matter Expert at the Department of Agriculture, Margao.
Dr. Pawar spoke on ornamental fishes. He informed the students about the market value and the demand for various ornamental fishes like Guppies, Goldfish, Gouramies, Swordtails, Mollies, Angelfish, Neon-tetra species and few other fish species. He stressed on the fact that breeding ornamental fishes is neither capital intensive nor requires much space or labour and that there are large returns in the business.
The session ended with Dr. Pawar’s demonstration of fabrication of Aquarium. The talk was very informative, interesting and a very good learning experience.
