A lecture series on Pulses was organised by Goa Science Centre & Planetarium, Goa from July 13th to 17th, 2016 to commemorate the ‘International Year of Pulses – 2016’ – the year being dedicated to the promotion of cultivation & utilisation of pulses as it forms the major nutrient store, especially for proteins.
8 students attended the lectures on 13th, 16th & 17th of July, 2016. The group constituted of students from Semester I, III & V. The topics were as follows:
- 13th July – ‘Promote the value & Utilisation of pulses throughout food system’ by Dr. K. K. Manohar
- 16th July – ‘Indian Vigna sp.’ by Prof. S. R. Yadav
- 17th July – ‘Growing pulses at home’ (Kitchen gardening) by Mr. Minguel Braganza, Organic Farming Association of India.
The lecture series were held at the auditorium of the Centre from 11 am to 12 noon which were followed by interactive sessions. This event heightened public awareness of the nutritional benefits of pulses as part of sustainable food production aimed towards food security & nutrition.
