To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the historic 18th June Movement of 1946, the Department of History Carmel College, organised a programme to honour one of the unsung heroes of this movement Dr. Juliao Menezes. The programme was attended to by Principal Rev. Dr. Aradhana AC, faculty members and students.

Ms. Leila Ribeiro spoke on the early life and contribution of Dr. Juliao Menezes to the cause of Civil Liberties in Goa. It was accompanied by a pictorial presentation, by Mr. Sanford Pereira, of the various stages of the life of Dr. Menezes and events of the movement.

This was followed by a floral tribute to this illustrious personality, whose portrait was artistically painted by Ms. Kimberly Rodrigues of the SYBA.

Ms. Melony of the TYBA then recited aloud the English version of the original poem Outra June, penned by Goa’s cherished poet Mr. Manohar Sardessai.

The programme which was coordinated by Mr. Agnelo Dias ended with the Vote of Thanks and the singing of the National Anthem.
