The Faith and Mission Enlivening Cell of Carmel College for Women celebrated the Canonization of St.Teresa of Calcutta by organizing an inter-collegiate event, INSPIRE-2016, on 9th December. The event comprised of 2 onstage activities, ‘Living Faith’ – A One Act Play Competition and ‘Amazing Grace’-A Jingle Competition, besides offstage activities that included a quiz and poster competition on the life and work of Mother Teresa.
The event was inaugurated with a prayer and the lighting of the traditional lamp at the hands of Dr. Sr. Aradhana AC, Principal, Carmel College; Chief Guest, Sr. Florence Mary AC, Superior of the Holy Rosary Convent, Nuvem and former Principal of Carmel College; Dr. Rovina Fernandes, Secretary of the Faith and Mission Enlivening Cell and Ms. Sybil Fernandes, student representative of the Cell. The event gave an opportunity to the young minds from undergraduate colleges in Goa to explore the significance of faith in action and to enhance their faith experience through the inspirational life of Mother Teresa. The Chief Guest, Sr. Florence Mary, shared her experience of meeting Mother Teresa in person and hearing her speak at a religious conference in Delhi where her few words that God is one for all and that humanity is the greatest religion and service to the poor is the greatest form of worship, had a profound impact on many. The different competitions were judged by National Awardee in Public Speaking and former Professor of English at Shree Damodar College, Ms. Florence Rebello, music maestro, Mr. Inacio Palmeira, musician, writer and director of short plays, Mr. Seby Pereira and Ms. Ruth Dias, social worker and member of the Nuvem Parish Council. Speaking at the event, one of the judges, Ms. Florence Rebello lauded the efforts of the college faculty and students in planning the event and expressed hope that the event will inspire the students to be beacons of light and to carry forth the beautiful legacy of Mother Teresa.
The event saw the enthusiastic participation of students from 10 colleges from all over Goa. The Championship Trophy along with a cash prize of Rs.5000 was bagged by Rosary College, Navelim while students of Government College, Khandola were the recipients of the runners-up trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 3000. Ms. Elaine Furtado and Ms. Elaine Da Cruz anchored the program while Ms. Heloise Pinto proposed the vote of thanks. Class SYBCOM put up a meaningful stage backdrop at the college auditorium.
