On 14th August 2015, Carmel College for Women, held the installation of the newly elected student council for the year2015-16. This ceremony began with a prayer invoking the blessings of God. Elliya Mascarenhas and Priyanka Lone were the comperes for the day. The student council walked down the aisle in a stately march to the sonorous music of “Chariots of Fire” which was then followed by pinning of the badges and the oath taking ceremony, ending with the students proudly singing the college anthem.

This programme moved to the pre-independence day celebration. A variety of items were presented by the different classes and groups which included dances, songs, and a lovely ‘peace’ fashion show. This really set a sense of patriotism and an atmosphere of true kinship. The Principal of the college, Dr. Sr. Aradhana spoke a few inspirational words on the significance of Independence Day and the versatility of Indians. There was also an off-stage event, the Rangoli Competition under the college administrative block and outside the common room, turning the floors into a kaleidoscope of colour. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by the General Secretary, Shabeen Shaikh. All these memorable moments were captured on camera by Joao Souza. It was a morning well-spent in fun, fellowship and camaraderie on the occasion of the country’s 69th Independence Day. Jai Hind!
