Change your Mindset (CMS)- an Entrepreneurship Development Programme on Business Planning of I Create was conducted for the students of T.Y.B.COM from the 29th of October to the 1ST OF November 2014. The CMS Programme is for training and creating entrepreneurs in the society. This programme has been developed by the New Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) in the US. The programme has been adapted for Indian conditions by I Create which is a national level NGO.
The four day training programme was attended by 30 students. During this programme practical training on managing business, generating business idea, conceptualization based on core competencies.
Business Plan Programme:
A three days’ Life Saver International First Aid Course certified by St. John’s Ambulance, Wales, and conducted by St. John’s Ambulance Association, Goa team was held at Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem from 31st October to 2nd November 2014. The programme was organised by Equal Opportunity Centre of Carmel College and supported by Rotary Club of Margao Midtown. A total of 25 students participated in the training which was conducted by Rtn. Dr. Jorson Fernandes of Growing Point Margao and his team.
First Aid Course in Carmel College – Preparing for Emergencies:
The first Apostolic Carmel Alumni – Western Province Meet was held at Carmel College Nuvem, Goa from 3rd to 5th November 2014. 16 Representatives from Delhi, Chandigarh, Gandhidham, Nagpur, Gandhinagar, Mumbai and Goa attended the meet.

PHYSICS CONCEPTS DEMONSTRATION AT CARMEL COLLEGE
On the evening of 21st November 2014, Carmel College for Women, Nuvem, organized a programme entitled ‘Experimental Demonstration of Physics Concepts’ for students of neighbouring Higher Secondary Schools as part of their Golden Jubilee celebrations. The Resource person was Prof.B.D.Chakradev, retired Head of the Department and Associate Professor of Physics at Smt. Chandibhai Himmathamal Mansukhani College, Ullasnagar, Mumbai, a well-known activist for the promotion of science in the society for last 30 years. In the past, he has organized over 1400 sessions with demonstration of fascinating science experiments in various schools, colleges and other institutions at various places in India.

SKYWATCH AT CARMEL COLLEGE
The Department of Physics, Carmel College for Women, Nuvem, organized a program on Astronomy on Saturday, 29th November 2014 from 5.30 pm to 9.30 pm. Dr. Reshma S Raut Dessai, Assistant Professor in Physics from Chowgule College, Margao was the Resource Person for the program. There were students from Carmel College and Carmel Higher Secondary School, a few staff and parents of our students. Dr. Reshma Raut Dessai, an amateur Astronomer, spoke on “Advances in Space Technology and Carrier opportunities in Astronomy”. 60 participants attended the programme. It was followed by night sky observation through telescope.
11th Dec. – Our students of PG and UG sections presented a play at Old Goa for the Exposition of the relics of St. Francis Xavier. The play entitled “St. Francis Xavier – A Man for all Seasons” was staged 6 times at St. Cecilia auditorium to nearly house full audiences and was much appreciated by the people. It was written by Dr. Ana Rovina Ferrao, Mr. Agnelo Dias and Ms. Shanon Dias. Dr. Brian Mendonca of the English Dept. co-ordinated the event. Ms. Shanon and Mr. Sanford Pereira our staff members also took part in the play.
‘Francis Xavier – A Man for all Seasons’- A Play by Carmel College for Women
A play titled, ‘Francis Xavier – A Man for all Seasons’ was staged by the students and staff of Carmel College for Women on 11th December at the St. Cecilia Auditorium, Old Goa. The play, divided into two acts, portrayed the early life of Francis Xavier, the positive and negative influences on him at the University of Paris, his transformation after his association with Ignatius of Loyola, his missionary zeal and the challenges he faced on Goan shores. The second act ably brought out the relevance of the Saint to the modern times. It depicted the strong devotion of people to him and how he continues to inspire people, particularly the youth.
Play on St. Francis Xavier for Exposition at Old Goa:
Students’ Day was celebrated on 18th Dec, organized by the staff committee for this event. The final match of the volleyball tournament commenced the day, and the MCom Part I students emerged the overall winners. They were felicitated with gold medals and certificates and the SYBCom students were the runner-ups who were given silver medals and certificates. A number of interesting games were organized for the students and they participated enthusiastically. Snacks and ice-cream were offered by the Principal at the end of the programme. Jam session for the students was held each day.
Young Entrepreneur fair
For the first time in Carmel College, The Young Entrepreneurs Fair was initiated and organized by the Commerce Department at Carmel College on 20th December, 2014. The Young Entrepreneurs fair is inspired by the Business Plan Competition held at the college as part of the Change Your Mindset (CMS) Program, which is an Entrepreneurial Training Programme of I Create Inc. New York. This fair was organized to concretise the knowledge gained by the participants of the CMS Entrepreneurial Training Programme
The Young Entrepreneurs Fair was a huge success. It was highly appreciated and well patronized by the buyers. There were 10 groups of entrepreneurs, each with their business names well displayed on the stalls selling a wide variety of items based on their skills, interests and hobbies.
Student entrepreneurs operated under different names such as Creations, Piece of Cake, Trends Fashion Accessories, Food Bonanza, Christmas Mart, Accessorize, Young Creators, Ostoreanchi Kala, Trends Fashion Accessories and Zaika Chaat Centre. A wide variety of homemade cuisine like prawn mole, mughlai chat, fruit chat, GovindaBhel, chole, idlis, x’mas sweets like dodol, pinagr, saana, cakes and coffee mousse was on sale to cater to the foodies.
22nd Jan – Carmel Family day – was held at ‘The Village’ in Pateapur for all associated with Carmel and was patronized by over 400 guests, who had a good time meeting one another, sharing snacks and dinner and dancing to music. The live band ARCHES and compere Tara were very good and participants had a wonderful time.
23rd and 24th Jan – The National Conference on the theme “God, Cosmos and Humanity: Science in Dialogue with Religion” was organized, in collaboration with IISR, Pune and Science Religion Sangam, Goa. The conference saw the participation of the scientific as well as the religious community, thus offering a platform for meaningful dialogue and deliberations on the Science-Religion synergy. The Key-note speaker on the occasion was Rev. Dr. Job. The other speakers for the two-day event were Rev. Dr. Kuruvilla, Rev. Dr. Victor Ferrao, Fr. Noel D’Costa, Dr. KamladeviCuncolienkar, and Dr. Manoj R. Borkar. Staff and Students too presented papers and shared their perspectives and there was also a question-answer session to satisfy the queries of the participants.
Visit of Brazil Football Team
The Brazilian Team which came to play for the Unity World Cup met our students for about half an hour in the college auditorium. The students were very excited to meet the team members and spent time clicking memorable photos with them.
