The auditorium of Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem, Goa was transformed into a vast camp of the United Nations on 20 January 2017. Ms. Mary Mendes and Dr. Marzio Babille, former UN professionals were holding forth on their experiences from ground zero. Their topic was ‘Syria and Iraq: Religion and Migration.’ In a brilliant presentation Dr. Marzio enlightened the audience on the context of the conflict using the detailed maps on the power-point presentation. Mary Pereira, in her compassionate way spoke about the plight of women and children in conflict zones. Both of them dwelt on the UN charter, and how the organization works to make a credible difference on the ground.

Volume 2.2 of Kruti – the peer-reviewed multi-disciplinary research journal of Carmel College, was released at the hands of the Principal, Dr. Sr. Aradhana A.C., Dr. Marzio, Mary Pereira, and Professor Alito Sequeira. Dr. Marzio and Mary were introduced by Dr. Brian Mendonca, Faculty. The vote of thanks was given by student Ms. Fatimah Subhani. Later Dr. Marzio and Mary interacted with students. Mary read a poem on global warming after which they discussed how students can bring about positive change. The visit of Dr. Marzio and Mary Pereira was conceptualized by the Department of English of Carmel College, Nuvem, Goa.
