Students can get job opportunities in areas such as law, banking, marketing, public relations, human resource development, insurance, finance, business administration and accounts. Students also have self employment opportunity. They can start their own business.
The department provides job oriented education and provides the students with business skills that are useful for work life and one’s personal life. Faculty act as facilitators for placement agencies. Companies are invited to the campus for recruitment .
The department with an affiliation with GCCI through membership, attempts to attain its goal of maintaining practical exposure to industry and linking theoretical education with practical experience.
Our alumni are placed in nationalized banks, reputed firms, call centers, international airlines and are the teaching faculty of schools and colleges. Some of them are practicing lawyers .
An annual activity to develop teamwork and team spirit among the students, with its focus on the development of business, innovative and entrepreneurship skills.
Being a very popular event, it receives an overwhelming response from the students.
YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS FAIR
The annual event organized by the Department of Commerce, the Young Entrepreneurs Fair (YEF) was held on 16th December 2016. The YEF is inspired by the entrepreneurial training programme of I Crete Inc, New York.
Ms Jennifer Miranda was invited as a chief guest for the fair who is an entrepreneur herself and is also the founder of an NGO called AMI GOENKAR that provides assistance to interested entrepreneurs to help set up and run their own business.
Students acquired business skills of organizing an exhibition cum sale, analytical skills for consumer behavior and market study, product visualization, branding, order taking, billing, execution of orders, business ethics and an understanding the importance of quality and customer feedback in business.
CHANGE THE MINDSET
The Change the Mindset (CMS) Program of I Create was held from the 2nd to 5th November, 2016. The main aim of the program was to introduce the students to the idea of becoming entrepreneurs i.e. job creators rather than job seekers. The CMS program ended with the presentation of business plan competition.

Activity: Three Day Training Programme on Open Cage Culture
Date: 18th to 20th January 2017
A group of 20 students (10 of BSc Zoology semester VI and 10 of B.Com Semester II) participated in a 3-day short term training programme on Open Cage Culture conducted by directorate of Fisheries, Government of Goa at Fisheries training Center, Ela Dhauji, Old Goa from 18th to 20th January 2017. The students were accompanied by Dr. Subhadra Devi Gadi, Ms. Swizzle Furtado and Ms. Sushma Jaiswal.
Activity: Guest Lecture by Mr. Shivanand Pandit

Topic: Positive Attitude
On 20th January 2017, Mr. Shivanand Pandit, Tax Consultant from Margao addressed the S.Y. B.Com students on the topic ‘Positive Attitude’. He highlighted the importance of education in life and told the students to set important goals in life. He stressed on positive attitude for achieving the goals in life. All negative thoughts can be removed only with positive attitude. He also advised the students on managing the time wisely to attain goals in life.
He has authored a book titled “Begin to win”, which he shared with the students. The students responded to the book positively and showed keen interest in buying the same.
The talk was attended by 34 students of S. Y. B.Com.
Activity: Field trip to Industrial Unit and Dairy Farm
Date: 28th January, 2017
The students of T Y BCom went on a field trip to on 28th January, 2017. The students first visited Shinde Packaging Services, an industrial unit situated in Verna Industrial Estate. The students were divided in two batches to be shown around the unit. One group was guided by Mr. Das, the floor manager of the unit and the other group was guided by Ms Fernandes, the office manager. The students were shown the different processes and machinery from the time the raw material comes to the unit till the finished product. Due explanation was provided by the guides to make the students understand the different processes. The different sections shown include the raw material section, pressing and bubbling section, folding section, desk top printing section, edges cutting section, folds cutting section, lamination section and so on. Different products (boxes) manufactured in different sizes and thicknesses were shown to the students.
The students next visited Vaidya Farms, in Khandepar, Ponda which is an agricultural farm with a dairy unit. The students went around the farm observing the different types of plants and trees grown on the farm. The produce is sold for revenue generation. They also visited the dairy unit of the farm. The students learnt how a place with natural forest habitat with minor investment can be converted into a tourist attraction and used on commercial basis to earn revenue from the visitors.

The department organised a field trip for the students of SY B. Com on 11th February to Shinde Packaging in Verna and Vaidya Farm in Ponda. They were accompanied Sr. Janet A.C.,Ms. Gladys D’Souza and Ms. Jovelle. The students visited Shinde Packaging, an industrial unit in Verna Industrial Estate. The unit is involved in manufacturing of different packages including boxes and base-plates for cakes/pizzas. The students witness the entire production process. They were shown the different machines and their functioning.

Activity: Business Fundas 2017
Date: 15th & 16th February, 2017
The students of S Y B Com organised Business Fundas, an annual inter-class event on the 15th and 16th of February, 2017. The event was sponsored by Amazon Goa. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Sr. Aradhana A.C. on the 15th followed by off-stage competitions namely, Biz-Quiz, Treasure Hunt, and Green Product. On the 16th, on-stage Competitions held were Mad Ads and Eco-Princess. There was an overwhelming response from students of different classes. The overall trophy of Business Fundas 2017 was won by F Y B.Com.
Activity: Guest Lecture by Dr. Aldina Gomes

On 15th March 2017, Dr. Aldina Gomes, HoD of Psychology, Carmel College delivered a session on ‘Anger Management’ to the Sem II students of B.Com. The talk was a briefing on why anger is a necessary emotion but within controllable limits. She explained different ways on managing different degrees of anger with simple steps. It was an interactive session and will definitely help students use these elementary techniques whenever needed. Especially as teenagers, it is needful for a teen to combat challenges of day to day activities and being part of a commerce globe it is important to be able to know how to deal with certain type of people and to also deal with your own characteristics and not act and react on your outbreak of emotions.
