4th July 2015,

As promised, America’s Independence Day was celebrated in Carmel College of Arts, Science, Commerce for Women, Nuvem, Goa by the English Department with an amazing flow of dance performances, music, presentations and videos. To tickle a few taste buds, a canteen was held with hot dogs, canapes, coke and french fries.

The celebration started off with a prayer and a violin solo of ‘Morning has Broken’ and ‘Amazing Grace’ (by Catherene Monterio). The welcoming speech was given by Sister Principal Dr. Aradhana A.C. which was followed by a video on 4th of July’s history and celebration. A few popular American songs like ‘This Land is Your Land’ and ‘Country Roads.’ were sung by the students. To educate and entertain the audience, powerpoints on American hip-hop (Salrina Dias), Literature – Robert Frost (Savia Pimenta), Discovering America through Postage Stamps (Sir Brian Mendonça), Civil Rights (Susparsha Gaikwad), and Hollywood Cinema (Janice Da Costa) were presented. Ana RosaSantos, Parveen Shaheen and Efornie Fernandes danced to hip hop tunes from Hindi songs.  Ex-Student Cristabelle De Souza, who is proceeding for her higher studies to Kansas, USA made a PPT titled ‘Brain Gain: Higher Education in America and How to Get There.’ The programme ended with the Vote of Thanks (Sibyl Fernandes).
