The Department Of Psychology, Carmel College for women- Nuvem, along with the state coordinator prison ministry, Sr. Mary Jane s.f.n., conducted a Christmas program at sub jail, Sada Vasco on the 21st of December 2015 from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm. 18 students and three lectures spent time with the inmates, both males and females with a Christmas presentation under the theme “Hope”.

The program began with a short welcome address by the HOD of the department, Dr. Aldina Gomes. The first activity for the evening was a housie game conducted by the students and led by Prof. Lynette Fortes. Two prizes were won by the inmates, one for lucky five numbers and the other for the full house.

This was followed with the students singing carols and enacting a life crib, which was led by lecturer Faye Pinto. After this a short lecture on the topic ‘Hope and new Horizons’ was given by Dr. Aldina Gomes, in which she reiterated about the need of HOPE at the time of Christmas . One way to do this she said was to learn to replace anger with love and this is only possible if one can forgive oneself.

The program ended with distribution of Christmas sweet packets with delicious home baked Christmas cake, Bolinas, Doce and apple juice and wishing all the inmates, both males and females, a hopeful and blessed Christmas.
